When creating a logo we like to make sure we follow a logo design process. This ensures that the final design fits the needs of our clients. To give you an idea of what to expect from a logo project, below is an overview of the process. Since every project is unique, the approach may differ, but will always include the following components:
(all imagery shown is from a range of projects to better illustrate the process)
Our starting point. Here, either together or on your own, a Brand Identity Questionnaire is completed to get an overview of the project. This is where we really get to know your company, how it works and who it’s geared towards. All of the information gathered helps us create the best solution for your needs.
Now we’re ready to dive in. Once you commit to working with us, we’ll continue moving forward. From here we’ll conduct research focused on the industry itself. We’ll look into its history, your competitors and forecast the best approach.
After we’ve looked into your industry, we’ll conduct research into logo designs that have been successful and current styles and trends that may be related to the design brief.
Sketching & Conceptualizing
Now that we have a better understanding of your expectations, we can begin brainstorming and sketching out ideas onto paper. It’s an important step, as well as the most time consuming. This is where we develop the logo design concepts around the brief and research.
More like marinating. We’ll take short breaks throughout the design process. This lets the ideas mature and get renewed enthusiasm.
Once we’ve had some time to let the concepts marinate, we’ll select the best of the rough ideas, and make them more presentable. This involves scanning sketches into the computer, converting ideas into digital format, choosing appropriate fonts, color schemes and so on.
Your logos will be presented to you in mock-up form (ex: displayed on a business card, signage, etc). This will give you a better sense of what the logo will look like in real life application or as part of a cohesive brand. Along with these previews will include our analysis on the logos. At this point, we ask for another 1/3 payment before moving forward.
Upon your feedback, any necessary changes to the presented logos will be addressed (i.e. color, type, graphics modification). In the rare instance you find none of the logos we present to you satisfactory, additional concepts can be completed.
Upon your approval of a logo, final design files with proper specs included (see below) will be sent via email or Dropbox. That's it, you now have a brand new logo!!!
Once the project is complete and all files have been transfered to your care, you can count on our ongoing support. This includes but is not limited to printer consultation, additional projects or just general picking of the brain.
Of course there are many ways to skin a cat, and this is just one. But when trusting someone to create the identity of your business, be sure the proper steps are taken in an effort to create the symbol of your brand (i.e. your passion). You spend time, money and energy getting your business to rise above the clutter. Your logo should reflect that, and the work behind it should as well.
